Safehaven Marine is delighted to announce the signing of a new contract with NEWLAR S.A., a pilotage operator based in Montevideo, Uruguay, for the construction of an 18m Interceptor 60 Pilot vessel.

The new contract follows the successful delivery of the 15m Interceptor 48 Pilot Belgrano in 2020, which has provided reliable service supporting pilotage operations on the River Plate for the past six years.

For their second Safehaven pilot boat, NEWLAR has selected our larger 18m Interceptor 60 Pilot, powered by twin Volvo D13 marine diesel engines.

The recent launch of Ederra 8, another Safehaven Pilot 60 built for their fellow pilotage operators, the MVD Pilots Association in Montevideo, will undoubtedly have demonstrated the capabilities of the design. With its exceptional build quality, performance and seakeeping abilities, together with class-leading fuel efficiency, Ederra 8 has proven to be an impressive addition to the Safehaven fleet.

Of particular note is her remarkably economical fuel consumption of just 168 litres per hour at a cruising speed of 24 knots — an exceptional figure for an 18m pilot vessel, demonstrating the efficiency of Safehaven's proven hull design.

We very much look forward to building NEWLAR's new pilot vessel, which is scheduled for delivery in early 2028.

The new vessel will represent another significant milestone for Safehaven Marine, becoming our sixth Interceptor 60 Pilot built and our 70th pilot vessel delivered worldwide.
