SAFEHAVEN MARINE SUCCESSFULLY UNDERTAKE A SELF-RIGHTING CAPSIZE RECOVERY TEST OF BARRACUDA IN A LIVE

Safehaven marine recently undertook a self-righting capsize recovery test for Barracuda, our new high speed, low RCS Interceptor. One of Barracudas unique features is her high levels of seakeeping and survivability in extreme conditions of wind and wave. Depending on specification Barracuda can be self-righting as a result of her very low VCG and buoyant superstructure. Barracuda posses positive stability right up to 120 degrees of heel at which point her superstructure is immersed and creates a buoyant influence to prevent further heel, or if heeled beyond this point a self-righting moment, allowing her to recover from a total knock down or roll over. Several special features are incorporated into her design to facilitate this such as automatically closing engine room air intakes and cabin air vents, fuel air lock prevention system, a fully watertight cabin design with 20-25mm thick glass and inversion capable seating with occupant restraint harnesses. To demonstrate his confidence in his design Barracudas designer and Safehaven Marines managing director Frank Kowalski remained inside during the roll over allowing him to better understand and appreciate the forces imparted on any crew in this scenario, further enhancing his ability to engineer his designs for this albeit unlikely eventuality. This self-righting capability adds to Barracudas already impressive specification, making her a seriously versatile, multi-role vessel capable of S.A.R. response when required.
