'LIFFEY' the 2nd Dublin pilot boat is launched.
18mths after the first Dublin pilot boat 'Camac' was launched, Safehaven Marine have launched Dublin's 2nd pilot boat, ordered after the first vessel was delivered, and in operation successfully in the busy Port of Dublin. Powered by Caterpillar C12 575hp engines, on a 15,000kg lightship displacment she achieved a maximum speed of just under 27kts at 2300rpm, making her the fastest Interceptor 42 so far. In service she will be governed back to 2000rpm for an operational speed of 22kts. A sister ship to the first vessel in most respects, with a few additional refinements over the first boat as a result of crew feedback namely: low level flat pack life raft improving visibility on the fore deck area, anchor locker on the foredeck providing quicker and easier access to the anchor in an emergency, new helm seat pedestal providing a greater range of height adjustment to suit both taller and shorter crew members improving comfort and visibility. She is fitted with ride control adjustable Interceptor transom plates allowing the bow to be pushed down hard for an even softer ride into choppy head seas, and she will be fitted with our new special sacrificial shoulder fender for significantly softer boarding impacts. Differing cosmetically from the first boat for quick identification, she has a yellow roof and red stripe on the hull. Due for delivery in October after she will be exhibited at the workboat show organized by the Irish Skipper in Kinsale in October

She handled and performed very well during the first set of sea trials, see the short video here- SEE THE VIDEO

She is also fitted with our new, specially developed 'Sacrificial shoulder fender' which significantly reduces boarding impacts. Full details of which can be seen from this link- CLICK HERE
