SAFEHAVEN MARINE.  Builders of the Interceptor & Wildcat range of offshore craft

C.V.D.  (CUSTOM VESSEL DIVISION)

As part of our new  C.V.D. "custom vessel division" servicing the specialized Pilot and patrol vessel market, we can custom design a commercial

vessel based on our 16.5m INTERCEPTOR 55 hull. Below are some of  the specialized design variations available. As well as the archetypical

pilot type superstructure we have a 'work boat' version which maintains good accommodation as well as providing a massive aft cockpit. This design will be suitable for harbor authorities requiring a multi purpose vessel capable of surveying duties, passenger carrying, pilot boarding and ship handling, all from one vessel. In the fishing industry she will provide a large spacious work platform with large payload capabilities.

For customs and fisheries patrol, as example, our 'Patrol' version with 'Mother / Daughter capabilities will combine seakeeping, economy and comfortable accommodation levels in a compact, easily managed vessel.

For angling and dive charter work, where the customer desires simply the biggest and best charter boat available, our INTERCEPTOR 55 will fit the bill. With typical powering requirements supplied by, as example in a single engine configuration IVECO's 700 - 770hp, or Caterpillars and Volvos equivalent engine, she will have a 25kt  max speed and be capable of cruising economically at 17kts. This is achieved by being able to swing a huge 30" dia propeller running in a tunnel.  A twin engine configuration of twin 575hp C9 Caterpillars will provide a 28kts maximum speed.

A huge and comfortable accommodation area with seating for up to 12 passengers in the main cabin. A full size galley are is also positioned in the main cabin as well as housing an aft cockpit accessed heads compartment. Below is a second cabin that can be specified as either a large master cabin, multiple bunk berths or simply a huge storage hold with full standing headroom. The fore cabin can be specified with four bunk berths or a large double berth owners cabin with its own separate heads compartment. There is a large spacious aft cockpit. with a flush deck that can be laid out in any configuration. Seating modules and additional holds can be positioned wherever they are required by the crafts intended role. Optionally a flybridge can be specified, essential for a luxury deep sea angling craft in the Mediterranean.

The saying "size matters" is never more true than when at sea. Simply put, it will take a bigger wave to upset a 55ft long, 15 ton boat than it will to a 40ft boat, allowing greater endurance and greater comfort and safety.

HULL DESIGN

The Interceptor 55 has been designed to be our new flagship, with a length overall of 55ft, and a wide beam of 15ft, she will meet the demands of owners requiring the maximum accommodation, deck area and seakeeping.. The hull form closely follows designer ‘Frank Kowalski’s’ established Deep V, hard chine design with 22 degrees deadrise amidships, 17 at the transom and a fine waterline entry forward of 49 degrees which will ensure excellent head sea performance with little tendency to slam. The design incorporates the 42’s secondary defection rail, which has been modified to form a second chine, giving benefits in rough weather performance and overall dryness of the craft. A raked stem and bow flare ensures she has plenty of buoyancy to prevent ‘burying’ when running down wind, and her wide beam will ensure a high GM, providing excellent dynamic stability, very important when running with the sea on your quarter when heel and yaw can cause broaching. A deep full length keel is incorporated which will allow a 32” propeller to run fully protected in a specially developed tunnel used in single engine craft this will facilitate the latest trend amongst commercial operators of fitting large capacity, slow revving engines, turning a large diameter propeller to provide the most economical, fuel efficient cruising speed combined with maximum engine longevity. The depth of keel also allows the vessel to take the ground and give full protection to the stern gear. Of secondary importance from a practical standpoint, but very important nevertheless, is that the hull has the same graceful sheerline as in other Interceptors, which will ensure she’s a fine, seaworthy looking vessel.
